Dubai complete 200-megawatt power plant as part of world’s largest solar park

Le gouvernement de Dubaï a une longue ambition de construire le plus grand parc d'énergie solaire au monde d'ici 2030, un projet qui sera très encouragé par le fait que l'entreprise publique de Dubaï vient de terminer un projet d'une puissance de 200 mégawatts.
La centrale solaire de 327 millions de dollars est située dans le désert de Dubaï et a été dirigée par le développeur ACWA Power International d'Arabie Saoudite et devait être achevée en avril, ce qui rend l'achèvement rapide un exploit impressionnant. Al Tayer a indiqué que l'Agence de l'électricité et de l'eau de Dubaï achèterait de l'électricité à l'usine pour 5,6 cents le kilowattheure, ce qui représentait le coût le plus bas mondial pour l'énergie solaire au moment de l'attribution du projet en janvier 2015. Depuis, un prix encore plus bas de 2,99 cents pour une autre installation.
Dubaï a déjà annoncé son intention d'avoir 5'000 mégawatts de capacité solaire dans le parc d'ici 2030, afin de réduire sa forte dépendance au gaz naturel. La centrale solaire a été mise en service lundi et produira suffisamment d'électricité pour alimenter 50'000 foyers.
 "Le U.A.E. a commencé tôt ses préparatifs pour faire ses adieux à la dernière goutte de pétrole ", a déclaré Al Tayer lundi lors de l'inauguration de la nouvelle usine. Selon lui, Dubaï produira 10% de son électricité à partir d'énergies renouvelables d'ici 2020.
La construction de la troisième phase du parc solaire, une installation de 800 mégawatts, est en cours, a déclaré M. Al Tayer. Les contrats pour la quatrième phase du parc seront attribués en juin, a-t-il dit. Ce segment du parc solaire fournira probablement de l'énergie pour environ 8 cents le kilowattheure, en utilisant la technologie solaire concentrée, a-t-il dit.

The Dubai government has a long ambition to build the world’s biggest solar energy park by 2030, a project that will take much encouragement from the fact Dubai’s government-owned utility just completed a 200-megawatt power plant one month ahead of schedule. 

The $327 million solar plant is situated in the Dubai desert and has been lead by developer ACWA Power International from Saudi Arabia and was scheduled to be completed in April, making the quick completion an impressive feat. Al Tayer said Dubai Electricity and Water Authority will buy power from the plant for 5.6 cents per kilowatt-hour, which was the lowest cost globally for solar power at the time the project was awarded in January 2015. Since then, DEWA has contracted power at an even lower price of 2.99 cents for another facility. 
Dubai has previous stated their intention to have 5’000 megawatts of solar capacity at the park by 2030, in attempt to reduce its heavy reliance on natural gas. The solar plant began operation on Monday and will produce enough electricity to power 50’000 homes. 
 “The U.A.E. started early its preparations to bid farewell to the last drop of oil,” Al Tayer said Monday at the inauguration of the new plant. Dubai will generate 10 percent of its electricity from renewables by 2020, he said.
Construction for the third phase of the solar park, an 800 megawatt facility, is under way, Al Tayer said. Contracts for the fourth phase of the park will be awarded in June, he said. That segment of the solar park will likely supply power for about 8 cents per kilowatt hour, using concentrated solar power technology, he said.
